Joseph Swenarton

My paintings are a gift. I am blessed with a talent to create, a passion to use and refine that ability and a deeply spiritual empathy with the beauty of life. My art comes from a process that starts deep within me and ends up on canvas as pure emotion. Painting is what I was born to do, my purpose in life. My mission is to share my good fortune with others. … Joseph Swenarton

Joseph Swenarton was born during America’s “baby boom” and raised in Washington, D.C. He painted from early childhood, fascinated by the use of color to show what he saw and felt. Joseph’s parents knew he was gifted, and encouraged him to develop his talent. He studied art at Montgomery College and left school with improved skill and urgent need for insight. During this time Joseph worked in many different mediums including pencil, charcoal, pastel, and oil. It would not be until later however that he would find his passion for working in acrylics.

In 1985, he moved to Key West. There, Joseph Swenarton began to find his artistic footing. He resumed painting with renewed energy, using vibrant colors to translate the tropical beauty around him. Swenarton’s earliest significant body of work, Joseph’s Garden, was comprised of the stunning florals and landscapes he painted while living on this beautiful island.

Joseph’s first show was scheduled for late September, 2001. The tragic events of Monday, the 11th, intervened. During the next two weeks before the exhibit, the artist Joseph Swenartonimmersed himself in painting like never before. He soon realized the beauty on his canvas was a vital distraction from the horror he felt and it could be for others, as well. He was transformed; Joseph understood his gift. He could evoke pleasant feelings in viewers by translating his own emotions through painting.

The list of collectors of Joseph Swenarton’s art keeps growing. Many buyers own multiple paintings, and Joseph has done several commissioned pieces. He is especially honored to have among his patrons former Miss America, Leanza Cornett, and Emmy-award-winning journalist and host of “Entertainment Tonight”, Mark Steines.
